Business & Lifestyle Copywriting, Editing and Photography
Let’s be honest — the web’s already bursting with content. But it’s got a bit of a quality-control problem.
Making your message heard above all the mindless chatter is going to require more than just another humdrum writer; you need the skill of a seasoned, sharp-eyed communicator capable of driving online conversations and not just rehashing them.
Erin brings a broad background in journalism, copywriting, and cross-disciplinary editing to bear on projects of all sorts. And she’s a photographer, too!
For Businesses and Publications
Erin is deeply knowledgeable about tourism, arts, family, food, and Pacific Northwest business, and she writes on these subjects for clients of all kinds, from newspapers and glossy magazines to web-only publications to chambers of commerce and small businesses. She can help with:
Feature writing. Erin contributes regularly to a variety of magazines, newspapers, and websites focused on Pacific Northwest tourism, travel, business, and family, and she’s eternally eager to dig into a juicy lifestyle feature. She’s also got the chops to ably cover hard news.
Content marketing and web copy. Erin will help you supercharge your online presence through optimized landing page copy, targeted blog posts, ebooks, lead magnets, and other web-specific written products. She’s available for short- and long-term content-creation initiatives, and she can also help you improve the materials you’ve already got.
Other marketing collateral. Erin works closely with marketing departments to craft advertorials, direct-mail, and email marketing campaigns and other branded content. A journalist by training, she knows the ins and outs of various media, enjoys working with teams to craft and hone messaging, and will help you ensure that you’re speaking to your audience in a language they’ll recognize.
Editing and proofing. Sometimes, you just need a smarter set of eyes. Erin’s a former newspaper editor proficient in AP and Chicago styles, and she’s adept at following or even helping to develop in-house style guides. She’s comfortable polishing everything from web and print content to full-length manuscripts. She can go as deep as the project requires, from heavy developmental restructuring to light copy editing, proofing, and fact-checking.
Essayist. In her downtime, Erin ponders the many, many intersections of travel, writing, pop culture, and love. Follow her personal blog here.
Erin has experience working with writers of all levels, from non-native speakers to published authors. She particularly loves working with new writers, or those interested in self-publishing.
Manuscript read-throughs. Looking for an economical way to get feedback on a current project? Erin will read through your work and provide about two pages of notes and feedback, plus suggestions for how to move forward. This service also includes, at no additional charge, two “freebie” questions for the project she’s reviewed, redeemable at any time in the future.
Copy editing. Erin will take your precious manuscript and polish it until it shines. Whether it’s light copy editing, heavier structural editing, or deep developmental work, she’s ready to go as deep as the project requires, the writer desires, and the budget allows.
Proofreading. Perhaps you’re prepping to self-publish, or to send a piece of writing off to agents, editors, or publishers, and you simply need a sharp set of eyes to catch anything you might have missed. Erin will put her knowledge of Chicago, AP, and APA styles to work to ensure you look your best.
Coaching. Sometimes, the guidance you’re looking for is bigger than a single project. Erin can also help you identify and tackle weaknesses in your writerly skill set and point you to resources and exercises that will help you improve your craft. We’ll wrangle ideas and explore the practical and philosophical underpinnings of writing as they relate to your personal goals. Erin takes a down-to-earth approach to coaching writers, and her emphasis is on helping you develop better habits and put better content on the page.
Photographer. When she’s not editing and writing, Erin keeps busy running a boutique photography business specializing in portrait, photojournalism, and intimate wedding photography. See her photo work here.
Radio announcer. Erin’s also a news anchor for Portland’s KBOO Community Radio. Catch her announcing the news Wednesdays at 5 p.m. on KBOO.FM.
